Design Overview Methodology
An overview of the system design and installation
services we offer can be divided into 5 steps.
1. First contact
2. Site evaluation and system quote
3. Initiate project
4. System commissioning
5. System walk through/briefing
Before we begin the process of system design we need to ask about the electrical
loads you plan to run from renewable sources.
Three main factors help us design and size a system to fit your specific needs.
1. Your electrical usage, as determined by your previous electrical bills if you
are on the grid, or a load analysis if you are off-grid.
2. Available renewable resources (solar, wind, water or a combination of
resources)
3. Your budget
On-grid - Kilowatt-hours (kWh) reflect your
power usage. To size a system accurately, we like to take a year’s history of
your usage, which can be obtained by reviewing your past bills.
Off-grid - complete a load calculation
worksheet to provide the usage demand requirements.
First Contact: Give us a call or
email.
We will discuss your expectations, and what size and type of system will best
meet your wants and needs. We will discuss price, mounting location and
technique, utility rebates and incentives, what to expect from a system, and
address any questions you may have.
Site Evaluation and Quote: If you are interested in pursuing a system,
one of Renewable Energy Systems Associates may come to your house or business to
identify suitable renewable energy generation systems locations, take
measurements, evaluate your electrical setup, review a history of your electric
usage (if available) and develop system estimates for your review and
consideration. These estimates will include a financial analysis detailing
average annual energy savings, payback period, estimated rebates, net costs, and
return on investment.
To Initiate the Project the Client accepts the system design and system quote. A
deposit is collected from the customer. Renewable Energy Systems will prepare
system drawings and utility documents, initiate any applicable building permits
from the proper authorities, and begin procurement of installation materials and
major system components. Upon arrival in Alaska of all required Installation
materials and system components we will schedule delivery with system owner or
his installation contractor. Upon receipt of all ordered materials, the
remaining balance for system components and materials is due from customer. In
the event we are performing the installation then we move into the final three
phases...
Typical System Construction Timeline and Payment
Schedule where we are providing the installation services:
| Construction Schedule |
Timeframe |
Payment Schedule |
|
Project Initiation |
Day 1 |
15% deposit (of total project cost) required to
initiate system design, permitting and engineering. |
|
Design, Engineering, Permits |
1 to 2 months after project deposit depending on
municipality and utility |
Upon completion, and prior to ordering major
components the first progress payment is required. This payment is
generally 20% of the total project cost. |
|
Delivery of Installation materials and system
components |
2.5 to 3 months after deposit |
Upon the completion of the system installation and
successful inspection by the building inspector or system owner/agent
the second progress payment is required. This amount is equal to the sum
of the initial deposit and progress payment one minus the total system
cost. |
|
Installation phase |
Varies, but typically 1-3 days from delivery of
components |
As negotiated by customer with our service
department for the labor. Typically 50% of labor charge is billed before
installation. |
|
Inspection & Commissioning. |
3.5 to 4 months after deposit |
System Commissioning: After installation is complete
and all electrical inspections have occurred, We will test various
system components for safe operation, generate system documentation for
the end user and commission the system. |
|
Customer Walk Through and Acceptance |
A full walk through of the system is done prior to
or after commissioning. System operation guidelines and maintenance
issues are addressed with client. The System Operations Manual is
presented and an optional maintenance contract is offered to the client.
Customer accepts system and final payment is made. |
